أطلقت لجنة الدفاع عن المسيحيين من واشنطن عريضة إلكترونية لجمع تواقيع مؤيدة لمواقف البطريرك المارونية، وخاصة في دعوته لحياد لبنان الناشط في الصراعات الإقليمية، وإقامة مؤتمر دولي بقيادة الأمم المتحدة لمعالجة الأزمة اللبنانية.

Lebanon is in desperate need of international help

If Lebanon remains on its current course, it faces the reality of becoming a failed state, or even imploding into civil war, due to its simultaneous economic, political, and security crises. The political class has proven itself to be grossly corrupt, working against the interests of the Lebanese people. This grossly negligent leadership is unacceptable and must be replaced by responsible governance.

Hezbollah--who benefits from a broken Lebanese government--threatens the stability of Lebanon every day, through perpetual threat of domestic upheaval and regional war.  In blatant indifference to the lives of innocent Lebanese, Hezbollah continues to use civilian areas and infrastructure to store its arsenal of rockets and missiles. Meanwhile, Turkey is attempting to exert influence over Lebanese society, radicalizing the Sunni demographic, and smuggling weapons into Lebanon.

Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rai, Patriarch of the Maronite Church, has been a leading advocate of several key initiatives to promote Lebanese stability, including Lebanon’s active neutrality in regional affairs and conflicts, and a United Nations-led international conference to address the national crisis in Lebanon, through the leadership of American President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

We stand in solidarity with Patriarch Al-Rai and support his proposed initiatives to save Lebanon. No longer can Lebanon, nor the international community, afford to allow Lebanon to remain under the thumb of Hezbollah, become an Iranian satellite state for proxy leverage, or a Turkish colony for regional hegemony. We believe the future of Lebanon should be charted by the Lebanese people for the common national interest, through responsible governance and democratic values.
