أعلن رئيس تجمع النواب الأميركيين من أصل لبناني، النائب الجمهوري داريل عيسى، أنه يدرس احتمال ترشحه لمنصب رئيس الكونغرس لملء المقعد الذي شغر باستقالة الرئيس السابق جون بوينر.
عيسى كشف ذلك اليوم في مقابلة تلفزيونية على MSNBC، ثم أرفقها بتأكيد نشره على صفحته على الفايسبوك وجاء فيه:

“Many have asked whether the rumors are true. As I told Morning Joe this morning, I am, indeed, considering a bid for Speaker of the House.

The frustration Americans have expressed – including with John Boehner – was due to the fact that they felt as if the Republicans in charge in Congress were not willing to stand up to the Obama Administration. Americans want someone with a proven track record of holding this Administration accountable.

I pledge to play a constructive role in that discussion and hope my colleagues will do the same as we work to choose a Speaker who best represents the values and aspirations of the American people”.
